What is the AMD Ryzen 7 1700?
The AMD Ryzen 7 1700 is the basic option in AMD’s new range of Ryzen 7 series. It Prise at around $300, it still offers a good feature set to the Ryzen 7 1800X & is by far the cheapest current generation, eight-core processor you can buy.

This applies even more so when you try to compare the Ryzen 7 1700 to it’s nearest price competitor from Intel, the Intel Core i7-7700K. This is only a quadcore chip but it has a base clock speed of 4.2GHz & boost of 4.5GHz, that is a huge advantage in raw clock speed.
However, this allows for the another key difference between the 1700 & 1800X, that is the latter has a TDP of just 65W. That’s an astonishingly less amount of power for an 8 core processor. By comparing, the 7700K has a TDP of 91W, the Ryzen 1800X has 95W & the eight-core Intel Core i7-6900K is 140W.
The difference but not the key difference between the Ryzen 7 1700 & 1800X is that ‘X’ on the end, which identifies that the 1800X can further boost the clock speed of a core by 100MHz, while the Ryzen 1700 can only do so by 50MHz.
